IT STARTED WITH A SCAM

MelaninKush is a self-taught Black Jamaican woman and one of the most celebrated POC avatar creators in VRChat. Her story began the way great ones often do — out of frustration. After being scammed out of money for a low-quality avatar, she made a decision: "I might as well learn how to make avatars myself. And I learned myself."

Within just 3 months, she was sculpting full custom 3D avatars from scratch in Blender, rigging them in Unity, and releasing work that took the entire VRChat community by storm.

THE MISSION

MelaninKush had one goal: bring Black and Brown people into the metaverse — fully represented, boldly dressed, and unapologetically themselves. At a time when melanated avatars were nearly impossible to find in VRChat, she built an entire world of them.

Every avatar she creates is custom sculpted, custom textured, custom energy — built to make the culture feel seen in virtual space. Everyone deserves to see themselves in the metaverse. Always.

FROM VR TO THE RUNWAY

In 2025, MelaninKush took her digital fashion beyond the headset. She was featured at NYC Digital Fashion Week through 99Yards x Royalty Radio Media, showcasing her designs inside Meta Horizon and at an in-person event in New York City.

Her work was part of the 'MetaVerse to Reality' movement — digital fashion that bridges virtual creation and the real world. As she said: "I don't take alignment lightly."
